This tour is designed to be a complete introduction to Venice in just four hours.
Of course St Mark's Square and the interior of the Basilica (which cannot be done
if there is "acqua alta", high water, or religious celebration days), with an overview
of all the celebrated monuments here.
This part of the tour will allow our guides to provide a well-articulated historical
introduction to the city: its genesis, apogee and decline, through the course of time,
spanning from the 9th to the 19th century !
We will then board a private launch to navigate the Grand Canal on our way
From this waterway, which is still the main thoroughfare here, we will admire the
homes of the rich and powerful in past and present Venice, with their particular
styles and stories.
Your guide will also stress the accent on today's problems about the preservation
of this most unique cultural heritage which is Venice.
We continue up to the Northern Lagoon to visit the island of Murano, a major center
of glassblowing for 800 years. On Mondays through Fridays you will see an actual
production line at one of the top glass factories. On the weekends we will be
able to provide a shorter demonstration
After returning to Venice from Murano we will have enough time to explore the
back streets, where the Venetians live, to savour the everyday life in an intricate
maze of ancient narrow alleyways, large and lively squares with magnificent buildings,
meandering canals, coming finally to Rialto, the bustling "heart" of Venice.
